Welcome to our grade one web page! My name is Tracey Featherstone and I’m your child’s English teacher. Here you will find information about English homework, class work and upcoming school events. I’ve been getting to know your kids and doing my best to get them organized.
A school supply notice was sent out last June asking for certain items. Make sure your child has a pocket folder. Every day you need to check this folder for homework to complete, corrections to be made and returned and notices from me. BEFORE THE FIRST ENGLISH CLASS AT HOME LABEL THE FOLDER WITH YOUR CHILD’S NAME AND WRITE HOMEWORK. The folder is essential as your child has several teachers and subjects.
All students are permitted only 1 pencil case to class. Make sure you purchase a large case to fit all pencil crayons, a few led pencils, eraser, large glue stick, sharper, scissors and stylus. ALL SUPPLIES MUST BE REMOVED FROM THEIR PACKAGING AT HOME AND ALL PENCILS SHARPENED AT HOME BEFORE THE FIRST ENGLISH CLASS. I DO NOT ALLOW MARKERS.

June 5: Read Monkey Talk pages 42 to 45. Complete 2 sis died worksheet for Friday. An evaluation went home.
May 29: 3 evaluations went home. Read each day Very Tall Mouse and Very Short Mouse pages 4 to 10. Complete work package for next class.
May 22: Spelling lesson 7 is due next Wednesday. Complete all pages and learn the new words. An evaluation went home.
May 10: Continue Read The Wild Things. Complete phonics pages up to and including page 79. Anyone who was absent the past few weeks is still responsible for completing the work. Go through the previous pages. A test is coming…
May 8: Keep reading The Wild Things. A test is coming up!! Complete the rest of the booklet for Friday.
May 3: Continue to read Where the Wild Things Are. An evaluation went home.
May 1: Read each day Where the Wild Things Are.
April 26: Spelling Unit 5 is due on Wednesday. Finish all pages and learn the new words. An evaluation went home. All absent students will find their spelling lesson in their desk. Make sure you take it home!
April 17: Complete pages 55 to 70 in Spectrum Phonics for next class on April 26th. For the review go back and check previous pages to help you.
April 12: Continue to read your Peter Rabbit book and be ready for a test on Wednesday.
April 10: Continue to read your Peter Rabbit 🐇 Book. Nice reading today 👍😘😘😘. Complete Sequence of Events sheet for next class. An evaluation went home.
April 5: Today we read The Tale of Peter Rabbit 🐰. Everyone made a book and must read it every day. I will ask everyone to read on Wednesday. Practice makes perfect!

March 29: Complete if you haven’t already phonics work pages 50 to 54 for Wednesday. Read every day!
March 27: We are working on a writing project in class for nutrition month. Read at home every day. Practice makes perfect!
March 22: Read your library book.
March 20: Read each day The Chick and the Duckling pages 102-109. Complete all worksheets for Friday. An evaluation went home.
March 15: Complete long a vowel work pages 46, 47, 48 and 49 for next class. Read your library book. March scholastic went home.
March 13: Read Emily and Arthur pages 87 to 98 several times each day. Complete 3 worksheets for Friday.
February 27: Today almost everyone did their snowman recording. Some have to finish writing their story to do the recording Wednesday, March 13. Have a great vacation everyone!
RFebruary 20: Today we started a project on the iPads. Everyone has gone home with a paper to complete a story about their snowman they made on the iPad. Practice reading it to do your recording. Make it interesting and fun!
February 15: Read each day The Snow pages 63-66. Complete all pages in work package for Wednesday.
February 8: Read your library book 📚. An evaluation went home.
February 1: Read your library book. Read your Snowman ⛄️ at Night storyboard.
January 30: Everyone went home with their phonics book. Review all short vowel sounds for Friday. ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY! Read your library book. An evaluation went home.
January 25: An evaluation went home. Several students did not do their phonics homework. In your phonics workbook do up to and including page 45. Do not do page 44 unless you have time and want to.
January 23: An evaluation went home. Keep reading The Mitten for a test on Friday. Do spectrum phonics pages 32 to 35 for Friday.
January 18: Very nice reading today, boys and girls 👍. Continue to read The Mitten every day. Finish all the worksheets for unit 3 spelling. Learn all the words for Wednesday. You can also practice on Spelling City.
January 16: Read The Mitten each day. Everyone is making nice 👍 progress 😀. If you haven’t, finish the My Mitten sheet for next class.
January 11: Continue to read The Mitten each day. Many need lots of practice and 2 didn’t return their book. We made a book today. Practice reading it.
January 9: We are working on a new book titled The Mitten. It is not easy. Read it several times each day and make sure to have it with you on Friday.
December 19: Practice reading Snowmen at Christmas for Friday.
December 5: Read your library book 📚. Ask about Speedy!
November 30: Read Hup, Two, Three, Four each day. Complete gaint writing sheet.
November 28: Read your library book 📚. Ask about your child’s magic story! December scholastic went home.
November 21: Read your library book 📚.
November 16: An evaluation went home. Complete the last page in you My Story package for Wednesday. Read your library book 📚.
November 14: 2 evaluations went home. Read Work Horses pages 71 to 79 several times. Complete worksheets for Friday. Many students have mechanical pencils. This is not appropriate for first grade as they play with the lead. They are forbidden 🚫 in my class.
November 9: An evaluation went home. We worked on our 1st spelling lesson. Learn the 5 words from unit 4 and complete the worksheets for Wednesday. Practice on Spelling City.
November 7: Today we reviewed beginning and ending sounds. Complete all the worksheets. The bottom of each sheet gives instructions to color each item. Be ready for a test on Friday. Don’t be absent!
November 2: An evaluation went home. Read several times each day Henry’s Exercises pages 54-63. Complete the worksheets for Wednesday. Learn the vocabulary from the story for Wednesday: on, off, over, under, beside, up and down. Return the reader on Wednesday!
October 26: An evaluation went home. Read your library book 📚. A sheet went home with a list of words. This is a guideline as to what words your child should be able to read and write by grade level. Begin to go through the columns until your child can read them (not memorize them). Once they know these sight words, they will have no problems reading them in any given text. If your child does not know the alphabet sounds then this will be difficult. Reading and writing is one of the most difficult things we learn. It takes much practice to become fluent.
October 24: An evaluation went home. I was checking the reading today. Much more practice is needed!! Be ready Friday.
October 19: Read your library book. Review the words from Busy Day: waking, washing, dressing, eating, working, painting, reading, sitting, jumping, swinging, dancing, waving.
October 17: An evaluation went home. Read Busy Day Pages 41 to 53 each day. Complete the ing worksheets for next class. Practice reading all the ing words. October scholastic went home.
October 12: Read your rhyming story to your family. Read your library book 📚. I will begin reading evaluations next week. Practice hard!!
October 5: Nice presentations today! Next group will be on Wednesday. Read your library book 📚. Learn to read the number words from one to ten. Happy turkey 🦃 day!
October 3: Read your library 📚. Orals begin on Friday! I apologize for the delay in the scholastic order. It should arrive this week.
September 28: A notice went home for an upcoming ORAL PRESENTATION. Take note of your day and be ready for your show and tell! Practice reading every day 1,2 Buckle My Shoe and One, Two Bubblegum Chew. Complete the number package that goes with it. Learn to read the number words from one to ten.
September 26: Complete Spectrum Phonics Pages 15 to 18 for Friday. Read your library book every day.
September 19: Read your library book.
September 14: Read your library book every day. Complete color booklet given today. Learn how to read the color words and recognize the colors for next Wednesday’s class 🌈.
September 12: Read your library book every day. Practice singing and reading the song, Sing a Rainbow (see handout). Complete the colors booklet for next class.
September 7: Read your library book 📚 each day. Some students have to practice, fix or finish writing their name in cursive for next class. We already have some wonderful readers 👍😀😀. Scholastic notice went home. Please read carefully before ordering. No cash.
September 5: Today everyone went home with a book to read. Practice reading it a few times each night and return it to class on Friday. All notices and corrected work stays home NOT IN THE GREEN DUOTANG.
August 31: A notice went home today. Come to class next week with all your required supplies.
